Equipment List


  • Large pot or Dutch oven
  • 2 mixing bowls

Ingredients


  • 2 lbs 93% lean ground beef
  • 1 c fire-roasted crushed tomatoes
  • 6 oz can tomato paste
  • 2 Tbsp Worchestershire sauce
  • 3/4 c ketchup
  • 2 tsp mustard
  • 8 oz can tomato sauce
  • 3 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 c chili sauce
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp fresh ground pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced & divided
  • 1 red pepper, finely diced
  • 1 small red onion, finely diced
  • 1 jalapeño, finely diced
  • 1 Tbsp butter

Preparation Instructions


  • Finely dice red pepper, onion, & jalapeño, and mince garlic

Cooking Instructions


  • To a large bowl, add crushed tomatoes, Worchestershire sauce, & tomato paste
  • Add brown sugar, tomato sauce, & tomato paste
  • Add mustard, chili sauce, & ketchup
  • Whisk together
  • Set mixture aside
  • Add ground beef to pan
  • Separate & mash beef as it cooks
  • Note: A meat masher works great here!
  • Add salt & pepper to pan
  • Add 2 T minced garlic to pan
  • Add garlic salt & onion powder to pan
  • Continue cooking & mashing beef mixture
  • Continue mashing as mixture cooks
  • Remove hamburger mixture to a bowl and set aside
  • Add 1 Tbsp butter to pan
  • Add onion, red pepper, & jalapeno to pan
  • Saute veggies, stirring frequently
  • Add remaining garlic to pan
  • Note: Looking for a very soft texture on the veggies
  • Add hamburger mixture back to the pan
  • Stir ingredients
  • Add sauce mixture back to pan
  • Stir ingredients
  • Stir ingredients occasionally as mixture thickens
  • Stir and cook until desired consistency is reached

Finishing Instructions


  • I love to toast up a good, thick bun in some butter to make the sandwich. Adds an extra level of yumminess!
  • The longer this recipe simmers, the richer the flavors become. Can easily be doubled and served in a crockpot for a crowd. Freezes beautifully, too!
