Equipment List
- 3 qt non-stick pot
- Star tip, size 5 is best with a 7/16" diameter opening
- Piping bag
- Spatula, spreader or kitchen scissor for cutting the churros
- Small bowl
- Large mixing bowl
- Shallow dish for cinnamon sugar mixture
- Electric mixer
- Paper towel
- Tongs or spoon
- Plate - q:2
Ingredients
- Churro Dough
- 1/2 c milk
- 1/2 c water
- 1/4 c unsalted butter- diced
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 c flour
- 1 egg- cracked in a small bowl
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Cinnamon Sugar Mixture
- 1 c sugar
- 1/2 T ground cinnamon
- 48 oz Canola oil- for frying
Preparation Instructions
- Measure ingredients and prepare. Set aside.
- Prepare dough - combine milk, water, butter, sugar, and salt into pot and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- In the same pot, add flour. Reduce heat to a medium-low and stir consistently. Should be a smooth consistency with some lumps.
- Using an electric mixer, place dough into the mixing bowl then run 2-3 minutes to dissipate heat. Once steaming stops, add in egg and vanilla extract, then blend till well combined.
- Prepare piping bag with a round star tip. Place dough into piping bag. See image for star tip sizing reference to a quarter.
- Note: You will be piping dough into 4" length and cutting it off the star tip with a spatula, spreader or a scissors.
- Prepare cinnamon sugar mixture - in a shallow dish combine sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
- Prepare a plate with 3 layers of papertowel on it to dry churros.
- Fill pot with 48 oz of oil. Place on stovetop.
Cooking Instructions
- Preheat to 349°F
- Add 4" piping of dough into the hot oil
- Add another 4" piping of dough
- Add another 4" piping of dough
- Add another 4" piping of dough
- Add another 4" piping of dough
- Add another 4" piping of dough
- Stir six churros
- Remove churros from oil
Finishing Instructions
- Place churros on prepared plate with papertowel to dry briefly.
- Place warm churros into cinnamon sugar mixture and toss with a tong or spoon.
- Dust off extra sugar and place churros on a plate.
- Repeat process with remaining dough.
- Serve warm.
