- Large cast-iron skillet
- Medium mixing bowl
- Large mixing bowl
- Sifter
Ingredients
- 4 c apples- chopped & seeded
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp allspice
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 c brown sugar
- 3/4 c rolled oats
- 1/2 c milk
- 1/2 c sugar
- 1/2 c flour
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp real vanilla
Preparation Instructions
- Dice and chop apples (seeds removed).
Cooking Instructions
- Add 2 tsp cinnamon, 1/8 tsp allspice, and 1/8 tsp nutmeg to bowl
- Add 1/2 c brown sugar to bowl
- Stir ingredients
- Add 4 c apples to bowl
- Stir ingredients
- Set aside
- Into a different bowl, sift 1/2 c sugar, 1/2 c flour, 1/4 tsp baking powder, and 1/4 tsp salt
- Add 3/4 c rolled oats to bowl
- Add 1/2 tsp real vanilla to bowl
- Add 1/2 c milk to bowl
- Stir ingredients
- Place cast-iron skillet on burner and preheat
- Add 2 Tbsp butter to pan
- Add apple mixture to pan
- Stir ingredients
- Continue stirring occasionally as apples soften
- Stir ingredients
- Spoon oat mixture on top of cooked apples in equal portions.
- Note: Allow to cook undisturbed as dumplings cook through.
- Cover ingredients
- Uncover ingredients
Finishing Instructions
- Spoon into bowls and top with ice cream.
